Here's the recipe I use for my Crimson Fists. (it will lean heavily on Scale 75 paints, with help from some friends.) This tutorial will focus on Characters, and character type models, as I'll build another specifically for "rank-n-file" troops.

Assembly

  1. First the assembly, and I tend to build in sub-assemblies because I'm a stickler for getting at all the details.
  2. Each Phase, and the colors being used for each component, will all be painted at the same time.

Painting

Base Coating

  1. Black Generally, I prime my Crimson Fists in Black. While I've got the Vallejo Surface primer listed here, I'll generally use Krylon Camoflauge Matte Black, as it takes paint incredibly well, and bonds to the plastic.
  2. The Next part of the black is that I put a coat of my "general black paint," and in my case I use Black 2.0. This way, if there are any mistakes later, I can clean up with some Black 2.0. For a similar finish, I'll also use Black as it's got an amazingly black finish.

Blue

  1. Cantabric Blue After all the different techniques I've learned, I'll base-coat with my Primary/Mid-Tone. Anyone familiar with Scale 75 knows how smoothly it blends into lighter, and darker tones.
  2. Deep Blue & Cantabric Blue This is where we begin blending the mid-tones into the shadows and crevices. Generally I go back & forth between blending the mid with the darker tone, or just glazing the Deep Blue gradually into the shadows.
  3. Caribbean Blue This is (quite literally) the opposite of the previous step, as I gradually glaze this into the top ⅓ edge of the surfaces, culminating in an edge highlight of Caribbean Blue

Red

  1. To work on the Red, I start with a base layer of Deep Red , and I hit all the various red bits in the single step.
