Painting guide for death guard, specifically used for the Plague Marine Kill Team

Armor

  1. Priming in Vallejo Black
  2. Base coat Black Red
  3. Airbrush volumetric highlights with white ink all over the model
  4. Varnish the whole model (relatively thick) with a gloss varnish
  5. Pin wash whole model with a black (or any other very dark) oil paint thinned with mineral spirit. Let it dry for a few hours, ideally over night to be safe
  6. Clean the model using a makeup sponge
  7. Varnish the model with AK Ultra Matt varnish
  8. Airbrush Militarum Green thinned a bit, to saturation
  9. Apply Death Guard Green with airbrush aiming at the Highlights to desaturate the Militarum Green
  10. Optional: Apply Death Guard Green with a sponge for weathering

Details

Bones/Horns/Teeth

  1. Basecoat Vampire Fang
  2. wash using Skeleton Horde diluted 50/50 with Contrast Medium focus on the ends of the bone/horn
  3. Paint the tips of the Horn with Rhinox Hide
  4. Rehighlight some areas with Vampire Fang

Dead Flesh

  1. Apply succubus skin. If the flesh is under the armor (look at the picture) thin it down with water to let it run into the recesses. While the paint is when add diluted Brown Rose to create some highlights
  2. Wash the flesh with Reikland Fleshshade
  3. Rehighlight the flesh with Brown Rose . Mix in some Basic Skin Tone for brighter highlights if needed

Maggots

  1. Basecoat using Blue Violet
  2. Highlight: Mix in more and more Pastel Violet

Worms (like on the plague marine kill team Icon Bearer)/Tentacles

  1. basecoat with 4:1 Amethyst Blue and Basalt Grey (to desaturate)
  2. 1. Highlight with 2:1 Base Mix and Dead Red
  3. 2. Highlight 1:1 Base Mix and Dead Red
  4. 3. Highlight add more and more Dead Red to the mix until the highlights are bright enough for your taste

Skulls

  1. Base Drab Brown
  2. 1. Highlight: 1:1 Drab Brown and Caramel Brown
  3. 2. Highlight: Caramel Brown
  4. 3. Highlight: 1:1 Caramel Brown and Bone
  5. 4. Highlight: Bone

Beulen (auch auf Nurglings)

  1. Base: Rakarth Flesh
  2. Apply Plaguebearer Flesh
  3. Into the recesses: Flesh Tearers Red

Nurglings

  1. Basecoat Rakarth Flesh
  2. Wash: Diluted Guilliman Flesh
  3. Rehighlight: Rakarth Flesh + Guilliman Flesh

Bronze Trim

  1. Basecoat: Dark Bronze
  2. Highlight Bronze
  3. Verdigris: Green Oxide diluted with water
  4. Rusty Steel/Metal
  5. Basecoat using vallejo metal paint Steel
  6. Wash with Sepia Wash mixed with Mournfang Brown (?)

Leather

  1. Basecoat with Leather Brown
  2. Add gradually Warm Grey for highlighting
  3. wash with Transparent Brown

Cloaks/Cloth

  1. Basecoat using Royal Cloak
  2. Highlight with Sword Hilt Burgundy
  3. Highest highlight using Glistening Gums
  4. (Add Black to darken the shadows if need)

Dillersen

Painting Warhammer 40k (and some boardgame) miniatures in 'Eavy Metal or Grimdark style.
