A celestial Necron dynasty inspired by the endless darkness of deep space. Ancient blackened metal and midnight armor are covered in swirling blue, purple and magenta nebulae, scattered stars and subtle constellation markings. Brilliant turquoise and icy-blue energy contrasts against the dark armor, while restrained gold details mark the dynasty's rulers and most important constructs.

The scheme is designed to scale across an entire army, from subtle starfields on Immortals to dramatic cosmic effects on Destroyers, Doomstalkers, Doomsday Arks and characters etc.

Preparation & Priming

  1. Prime the miniature
  2. Check coverage and correct missed areas

Mechanical Skeleton

  1. Basecoat exposed mechanical components
  2. Shade the metal
  3. Restore raised metallic areas
  4. Edge highlight the brightest metal

Celestial Armor

  1. Establish the near-black armor
  2. Stipple the dark blue nebula
  3. Build the brighter blue areas
  4. Introduce deep purple
  5. Build purple highlights
  6. Add small magenta nebula cores
  7. Blend the nebula transitions

Stipple Kantor Blue irregularly across approximately 20–30% of the armor. Concentrate the color into cloudy patches while allowing the black undercoat to remain visible between them.

Alternatives: Army Painter Fanatic Deep Blue / Vallejo Imperial Blue. If using Speedpaint, apply the equivalent blue over a locally painted grey/white area rather than directly over black.

Starfield

  1. Add fine stars
  2. Add several larger stars by hand
  3. Add occasional four-point stars

Constellation Markings

  1. Place constellation stars
  2. Connect them with extremely thin lines

Celestial Energy

  1. Establish turquoise energy
  2. Build cyan highlights
  3. Add icy-blue highlights
  4. Finish the hottest areas with white

Object Source Lighting

  1. Glaze reflected turquoise around energy sources
  2. Add tighter cyan reflections

Eyes

  1. Paint turquoise eyes
  2. Highlight cyan
  3. Add a tiny white focal point

Gold Details

  1. Basecoat important dynasty markings
  2. Shade gold
  3. Highlight gold

Lunar Base

  1. Apply texture
  2. Basecoat dark
  3. Drybrush medium grey
  4. Drybrush light grey
  5. Add final spot highlights

Purple Crystals

  1. Basecoat crystals
  2. Layer purple
  3. Highlight lavender
  4. Add white tips

Finishing

  1. Clean the base rim black
  2. Apply matte varnish
  3. Apply optional gloss to energy/crystals

Thin White Scar slightly. Remove most of the paint from a stiff-bristled brush and lightly flick the bristles toward the celestial armor. Aim for many extremely small specks rather than large droplets. Shield the metallic skeleton, weapon and base with paper while splattering. Once dry, use a size 0/00 brush to manually add several brighter stars of varying sizes.

## PRIMER

**Primary:** Chaos Black

**Alternatives:** Army Painter Matt Black Colour Primer or Vallejo Black Surface Primer.

Black is the recommended primer for the Eternal Constellation scheme. Grey or white primer can be substituted when using Speedpaint or Contrast paints extensively.

## BLACK & MIDNIGHT ARMOR

**Main Black:** Abaddon Black

**Soft Black:** Corvus Black

**Dark Blue:** Kantor Blue

**Mid Blue:** Altdorf Guard Blue

**Bright Blue:** Caledor Sky

**Alternatives:** Army Painter Fanatic Matt Black, Deep Ocean Blue and Ultramarine Blue; Vallejo Game Color Black, Black Grey, Imperial Blue and Magic Blue.

## PURPLE & MAGENTA NEBULA

**Deep Purple:** Naggaroth Night

**Main Purple:** Xereus Purple

**Speedpaint alternatives:** Purple Swarm and Familiar Pink.

**Vallejo alternatives:** Hexed Lichen, Violet, Lustful Purple, Magenta and Squid Pink.

## STARFIELD

**Stars:** White Scar

Use pure white for tiny stars, larger hand-painted stars, constellation points and the brightest celestial highlights.

**Alternatives:** Army Painter Matt White or Vallejo Dead White.

## CELESTIAL ENERGY

**Dark Turquoise:** Sotek Green

**Turquoise:** Temple Guard Blue

**Ice Blue:** Baharroth Blue

**Energy Hotspot:** White Scar

**Speedpaint alternatives:** Caribbean Ocean and Plasmatic Bolt.

**Vallejo alternatives:** Turquoise, Aquamarine and Glacier Blue.

## NECRON METAL

**Base Metal:** Leadbelcher

**Shade:** Nuln Oil

**Highlight:** Iron Hands Steel

**Bright Highlight:** Stormhost Silver

**Alternatives:** Army Painter Gun Metal, Plate Mail Metal and Shining Silver; Vallejo Gunmetal, Chainmail Silver and Silver.

## CELESTIAL GOLD

**Base Gold:** Retributor Armour

**Shade:** Reikland Fleshshade

**Highlight:** Liberator Gold

**Final Highlight:** Stormhost Silver

**Alternatives:** Army Painter Greedy Gold or Vallejo Glorious Gold.

Gold should be reserved primarily for the Overlord, dynasty symbols, constellation markings and important machinery.

## OPTIONAL COLORED SHADES

**Blue Shade:** Drakenhof Nightshade

**Purple Shade:** Druchii Violet

Use these selectively for deeper nebula transitions, tinted metallic shadows or areas surrounding celestial energy.

## LUNAR BASE

**Dark Base:** Abaddon Black

**Dark Grey:** Eshin Grey

**Mid Grey:** Dawnstone

**Light Grey:** Administratum Grey

**Final Highlight:** White Scar

**Alternatives:** Army Painter Matt Black and grey equivalents; Vallejo Black, Sombre Grey, Stonewall Grey and Ghost Grey.

## PURPLE CRYSTALS

**Shadow:** Naggaroth Night

**Base:** Xereus Purple

**Highlight:** Genestealer Purple

**Bright Highlight:** Dechala Lilac

**Tip:** White Scar

For glowing crystals, glaze a small amount of Xereus Purple or Genestealer Purple onto the ground immediately surrounding the crystal.

## FINISHING

Apply matte varnish over the completed miniature.

Optionally apply Ardcoat selectively to energy cores, weapon energy and crystals after the matte varnish has cured.

The finished palette should read as:

**Black → Midnight Blue → Purple → Magenta → Icy Blue → White**

with **cold silver machinery** and small amounts of **ancient gold** providing contrast.
