Light Brown Feathers
- Basecoat with Baneblade Brown .
- Wash and shade with Rhinox Hide . I started by thinning down a small amount substantially, then washing it all over. Once this was dried, I carefully shaded deep recesses with some layer consistency paint.
- Highlight with 1:1 Baneblade Brown and Karak Stone .
- Selectively highlight with 1:1 Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone .
- Add a little White to the above paint, then finish with a few specular highlights.
White Feathers
- Basecoat with Corax White .
- Wash and shade with Baneblade Brown . I started by thinning down a small amount substantially, then washing it all over. Once this was dried, I carefully shaded deep recesses with some layer consistency paint.
- Finish with specular highlights of White on the tips.
Between the light brown and white feathers, I made a rough transition. To do this, I sketched out a rough area with 1:1 Corax White and Baneblade Brown initially. Then shaded and highlighted as I felt was appropriate, to create a blend. Feel free to go back and forth until you are happy.
Black Feathers
- Basecoat with Black .
- Edge highlight and add chunky highlights towards the tip, using Dawnstone .
- Selectively highlight with Administratum Grey .
- Finish with a few small White highlights.
Dark Brown Feathers
- Basecoat with Dryad Bark .
- Wash and shade with 1:1 Dryad Bark and Black .
- Highlight with 1:1 Dryad Bark and Baneblade Brown . Highlight more heavily towards the tips of the large feathers.
- More selectively highlight with Baneblade Brown .
- Mix some Ushabti Bone into the above mix and add smaller highlights.
- Finally, add a little White to the above mix and finish with specular highlights, where needed.
Bill and Legs
- Basecoat with Deep Orange (or Troll Slayer Orange ).
- Shade with 1:1 Rhinox Hide and Mournfang Brown .
- Apply chunky highlights with Fire Dragon Bright .
- Add fine highlights of 1:2 Fire Dragon Bright and Ushabti Bone .
- Selectively highlight with Screaming Skull .
- Mix in a little White and finish with a few specular highlights.
I felt the orange of the legs was too vibrant when finished. To knock it back and differentiate the skin, I glazed with Tau Light Ochre , then re-highlighting with Ungor Flesh and Screaming Skull .
Green Leather Saddle
- Basecoat with Incubi Darkness .
- Mix a little Black into your Incubi Darkness , then shade.
- Glaze highlights and edge highlight with Kabalite Green .
- Mix your Kabalite Green 1:1 with Ushabti Bone , then highlight more selectively.
- Add a little White to the above mix and finish with very small highlights in select areas.
Skin
- Basecoat with an equal parts mix of Cadian Fleshtone , Kislev Flesh and White .
- Shade with Reikland Fleshshade .
- Deep shade eye sockets Doombull Brown .
- Tidy up with the base colour, if needed.
- Selectively highlight with a 1:1 mix of the base colour and White .
- Mix the above paint with White in a 1:1 ratio AGAIN. Now add a few specular highlights.
Blue Cloth
- Basecoat with Thunderhawk Blue .
- Shade with Dark Reaper and Abaddon Black .
- Highlight with 1:1 Thunderhawk Blue and Ushabti Bone .
- Mix a little White into the above paint, then highlight more selectively.
White Cloth
- Basecoat with 1:1 Celestra Grey and White .
- Take some of the base colour, then mix with Dark Reaper . use this paint to add shading.
- Use pure Dark Reaper to enhance the deepest parts of the recesses.
- With 1:2 Celestra Grey and White highlight the cloth.
- Finish with selective highlights of pure White .
Dark Brown Leather
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
- Add edge highlights to everything and volumetric highlights with Doombull Brown .
- Selectively highlight with XV-88 , using the big highlights from the previous stage as a guide.
- Finish with very small Screaming Skull highlights.
Brown Hair
- Basecoat with Mournfang Brown .
- With a thin 1:1 mix of Mournfang Brown and Abaddon Black , shade the hair.
- Highlight strands with 1:1 Mournfang Brown and Ushabti Bone .
- Increase the amount of Ushabti Bone in the above mix and highlight more selectively.
- Finish with a few specular highlights of Screaming Skull .
Wood
- Basecoat with Thondia Brown .
- Shade with some thin Rhinox Hide .
- Highlight and add woodgrain with a mix of 2:1 Thondia Brown and Steel Legion Drab .
- Take the above paint and mix it 1:1 with Administratum Grey . Now use this for finer highlights.
- Increase the amount of Administratum Grey again, then add selectively highlight.
- Finish with a few specular highlights of pure Administratum Grey .
