What a fun minature to paint! Mostly all skin and chitin, which are all organic fun things to paint.
Prime in Grey Seer
Skin
- Base in Pallid Wych Flesh
- This is a step where you can experiment, but I wash the skin with a 3:2:1 mix of Magos Purple , Guilliman Flesh and Contrast Medium .
- Recess shade some spots using Magos Purple , especially where the chitin meets the skin. Also glaze this on the back of the head
- Glaze Druchii Violet towards where the chitin meets the skin, make sure that the brush ends in the place where the chitin meets the skin so that that is the darkest spot
- Glaze back up raised areas with Pallid Wych Flesh
- If you want to, you can also do some final highlights with White Scar
Chitin
This is the time to break out your nice round soft drybrushes, for a smooth transition.
- Base in a 1:1 mix of Black Templar and Leviadon Blue
- Drybrush Thousand Sons Blue
- Lightly drybrush Sotek Green
- Do a 1:1 mix of Temple Guard Blue and Screaming Skull and do some spot edge highlights. Focus on points where edges meet.
Carapace "vents"
- Base in Pallid Wych Flesh
- Wash with the same skin mix as above: 3:2:1 mix of Magos Purple , Guilliman Flesh and Contrast Medium . For the small vents, you can probably stop here.
- Shade with Druchii Violet
- Highlight with 1:1 mix of Pallid Wych Flesh and Dechala Lilac
Metal
- Base in dark metal, such as Gunmetal Metallic
- Shade with Nuln Oil
- Sponge on highlights using a bright metallic such as Chrome Metallic
Red cloth
