My Sonoma, CA themed wood elf army. Yellow base done with an airbrush and then some leather, green, and NMM work to pick out the details.
To get started, I hit the whole model with a yellow base coat starting from pink. This involves putting down a base color with a tamiya rattlecan (you can use Pink to fill in gaps here as it's pretty close and does not matter too much). Then you get the shadows with a magenta, a zenithal white, then all over with Imperial Fist . Don't go too hard on the yellow or it all washes out. It's important to use a contrast yellow or other transparent yellow like an ink so that the white and pink shades show through and get that proper orange. Finally, mix 50/50 a bright yellow and white for some basic highlighting. We aren't working up to this color at all. Just hit the edges and highest, points on the model (especially focused on the cape and head) to give this yellow some intentionality.
Either a scratchy highlight or a glaze up depending on the surface/desired effect. If I want the edges to be lighter/more worn, glaze out towards edges and then highlight with the next color. Otherwise if I'm looking at a cloak/tabard or something where I want ridges or raised areas in the middle to be more worn, go with scratches of Mournfang Brown
