How I painted this stunning character from "The Outpost at Meerbridge" starter set for 1490 DOOM.

Dark Red Surcoat

1. Basecoat with Word Bearers Red .
2. Shade with a 1:1 mix of Word Bearers Red and Abaddon Black .
3. Glaze folds and raises areas with 1:1 Word Bearers Red and Wild Rider Red .
4. Mix some Jokaero Orange into the above paint and edge highlight/
5. Selectively edge highlight with pure Jokaero Orange .
6. Finish with very small highlights of Bestigor Flesh .

Grey Trousers

1. Basecoat with Stormvermin Fur .
2. Shade folds with thinned 1:1 Abaddon Black and Dryad Bark .
3. Highlight with 2:1 Stormvermin Fur and Karak Stone .
4. Increase the amount of Karak Stone in the mix and selectively highlight.
5. Mix a little White into the above paint, then finish with some very small highlights.

Black Leather

1. Basecoat with Black .
2. Add chunky highlights of Dark Reaper
3. Fine highlight with Thunderhawk Blue .
4. Selectively highlight with Fenrisian Grey .
5. Finish with a few specular highlights of Blue Horror .

Brown Leather

1. Basecoat with Mournfang Brown .
2. Shade with Rhinox Hide .
3. With 1:1 Mournfang Brown and XV-88 add chunky highlights.
4. Apply fine highlight of XV-88 add fine highlights.
5. Selectively highlight with 1:1 XV-88 and Morghast Bone .
6. Finish with very small/specular highlights of Morghast Bone .

Skin

1. Basecoat with an equal parts mix of Cadian Fleshtone , Kislev Flesh and White .
2. Mix some Doombull Brown into the basecoat and glaze in some shading.
3. Increase the amount of Doombull Brown in the mix and shade the deepest recesses.
4. Mix some White into the base colour and highlight the skin.
5. Increase the amount of White in the mix for further highlights, pushing them as far as you need.

Bandages

1. Basecoat with Steel Legion Drab .
2. Shade between the wrapping with thinned Rhinox Hide and a thin brush.
3. Glaze raised areas with Karak Stone , dragging your brush towards the centre.
4. Edge highlight wrappings with Ushabti Bone .
5. More selectively highlight with Screaming Skull .

Wood

1. Basecoat with 1:1 Dryad Bark & Mournfang Brown .
2. Run some thin Dryad Bark into deep recesses.
3. Apply chunky highlights with a 1:1 mix of the base colour & Karak Stone .
4. Now apply fine highlights with Karak Stone .
5. Finish with selective highlights of 1:1 Karak Stone & Wraithbone .

I found the finish was a bit chalky at this point, so I added richness with a glaze of Reikland Fleshshade .

Breathing Tubes

1. Basecoat as Karak Stone .
2. Shade with Baneblade Brown .
3. Deep shade with Dryad Bark . The jump between the initial stage and this is quite big, consider a 1:1 mix of the two to bridge the gap.
4. Apply a chunky highlight of Ushabti Bone . This is best applied as a heavy glaze.
5. Apply smaller highlights with Screaming Skull .
6. I finished of the tubes by mixing a little White into your Screaming Skull and applying a few specular highlights.

Shield

1. Basecoat with Morghast Bone . Whilst you are at it, add the quartering on the shield with Rhinox Hide .
2. Shade the light portion with glazes of Tallarn Sand .
3. Shade more selectively with glazes of XV-88 .
4. Edge highlight with Screaming Skull .
5. Finish with specular White highlights.

When it comes to the brown sections, I highlighted with Steel Legion Drab . Then selectively highlighted with Karak Stone and finished with dots of Ushabti Bone .

Gold Details

1. Basecoat with Retributor Armour .
2. Wash with Reikland Fleshshade .
3. Gradually mix Silver RLM01 Metallic into your Retributor Armour and highlight.
4. Finish with specular Silver RLM01 Metallic highlights.

Steel

1. Basecoat with Exhaust Manifold .
2. Add variety with glazed shading of Ratling Grime and Wyldwood to enhance it in the deepest recess.
3. Highlight with mix some Silver RLM01 Metallic into the Exhaust Manifold and highlight. Do this roughly, with a mix of edge highlights and a few stippled marks.
4. Finish with some small Silver RLM01 Metallic highlights.

I wanted to set the blade apart form the rest of the armour. So I basecoated it with Leadbelcher instead, before washing with Nuln Oil and then finished with the rest of the glazes and highlights above.
