This model was painted to be the "Technomancer" for my Hierotek Circle Kill Team. I tried to walk the line between the traditional Sautekh Dynasty colour scheme and the more characterful paint job from the box.

Living Metal

  1. Basecoat the model with Gunmetal Grey .
  2. With an airbrush, spray an all over zenethal highlight of Duraluminum downwards at a 45 degree angle.
  3. Spray White Aluminum almost straight downward, from the top of the model. Be selective only catching the very top, face and shoulders.
  4. Now we do an oil wash on all of the Necron and the weapon coil. I poured out the amount odourless Artists' White Spirits I felt I needed for the wash and added paint to it, until I was happy with the consistency. I used 3 parts Ivory Black, with 1.5 parts Burnt Sienna and 1 part Cobalt Violet Hue, all from the Winton range of oil paints.
  5. After giving the oil paint at least an hour to dry, wipe paint from the exposed areas and avoid recesses. I like to use makeup sponges or those little sponges on stick for applying makeup. If you want to remove the paint extra thoroughly in an area, add a very small amount of white odourless Artists' White Spirits to the sponge.
  6. Selectively highlight exposed edges and places where the light would hit with Silver RLM01 Metallic .

Black Armour

  1. Basecoat with Black .
  2. Chunky highlights of Incubi Darkness .
  3. Fine edge highlights of Sons of Horus Green .
  4. Selective highlights of 1:1 Sons of Horus Green and Sybarite Green .
  5. Add some White to the previous mix, and add specular highlights.

White Armour

  1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Grey Seer and White .
  2. Glaze/shade with Grey Seer . Be quite generous with the area you shade.
  3. Add additional shading with Dawnstone . Make this stage more selective.
  4. In areas where you want a clear division, shade with very thin lines of Skavenblight Dinge .
  5. Add edge highlights with White .

Dark Green Details

  1. Basecoat with 1:1 Abaddon Black and Caliban Green .
  2. Shade recesses with Abaddon Black .
  3. Apply chunky highlights with Warpstone Glow .
  4. Apply selective edge highlights with Moot Green .
  5. Now highlight corners with 1:1 Moot Green and Ice Yellow .
  6. Add some White to the above mix, then do specular highlights on corners.

Light Green Energy

  1. Basecoat with White .
  2. Wash with Tesseract Glow .
  3. Shade with thin Warpstone Glow .
  4. Shade the deepest areas with Caliban Green .
  5. Towards the centre, mix your Tesseract Glow with some White and lighten a small area, leaving space to get brighter.
  6. Finish with a small amount of White in the very centre.

Gold Details

  1. Basecoat with 1:1 Retributor Armour and Balthasar Gold .
  2. Shade with Gore-grunta Fur . I like to work it on my wet palette then selectively shade recesses, rather than wash the whole thing.
  3. Add deep shading to recesses with a thin mix of Doombull Brown and Abaddon Black .
  4. Add some Silver to what remains of your base mix, then highlight.
  5. Finally, highlight more selectively with pure Silver .

While I had the Gore-grunta Fur out, I also washed the ridged tubing with it at this stage.

Black Weapon Casing

  1. Basecoat with Black .
  2. Add chunky highlights of Dark Reaper .
  3. Fine highlights withal mix of Dark Reaper and Administratum Grey .
  4. Selectively highlight with Administratum Grey .

Green Blade

  1. Bbasecoat with 1:1 Waaagh! Flesh and Moot Green .
  2. Glaze/shade just under half with Incubi Darkness .
  3. Mix the Incubi Darkness 1:1 with Abaddon Black . Use this to shade roughly a quarter of the blade.
  4. Use Abaddon Black to shade a small area and the recesses between segments.
  5. Glaze the opposite (almost) half with Moot Green . Leaving a very small amount of the basecoat in the middle.
  6. Now mix the Moot Green 1:1 with Ice Yellow and glaze roughly the quarter closest to the tip. Use this same mix to edge highlight the whole blade.
  7. With pure Ice Yellow add ferly small highlights and more selectively edge highlight bright areas.
  8. Add some White to your Ice Yellow and add very small highlights to the "sharpest" areas.
  9. Finish with very occasional specular highlights of White .

Blackstone Crystal

  1. Basecoat with Sons of Horus Green .
  2. Glaze just under half of the top of each panel with Incubi Darkness .
  3. Repeat in the top quarter with 1:1 Incubi Darkness and Abaddon Black .
  4. Glaze just under half of the bottom of each panel with 1:1 Sons of Horus Green and Sybarite Green .
  5. Repeat in the bottom quarter with Sybarite Green .
  6. Edge highlight with Sybarite Green and a little White .
  7. Finish with specular highlights of White on corners.
