A step by step guide of how I painted my Imperial Knight for a custom one off scheme.

  1. Undercoat the model with Chaos Black

IMPERIAL KNIGHT SKELETON

  1. Basecoat the model with Leadbelcher You can also apply this using a brush, but would recommend the spray!
  2. Basecoat certain areas of the skeleton with Balthasar Gold to help break up all the silver.
  3. Shade all of the skeleton with Nuln Oil
  4. Basecoat any area of the Skeleton you wish to be a lighter metal colour with Runefang Steel I opted to paint the pistons for this.
  5. Apply a second wash all over the model of Agrax Earthshade
  6. Drybrush the model with Necron Compound
  7. Highlight/Layer the previous areas you basecoat in Runefang Steel but avoid the recess where the shade has settled.

RUBBER/SMOOTH PIPES

  1. Basecoat the rubber/smooth pipes, along with the eyes of the model with Abaddon Black
  2. Highlight the rubber/smooth pipes with Eshin Grey

EYES

  1. Layer the eyes with Caliban Green
  2. Apply a second layer on the eyes of Warpstone Glow However leave some of the previous layer showing.
  3. Apply a third layer on the eyes of Moot Green Again this will be in a smaller area, leaving the previous colours showing.
  4. Finish the eyes with a dot highlight of White Scar

BLUE/GREY ARMOUR PANELS

  1. Basecoat the armour panels with The Fang
  2. Layer these armour panels with Russ Grey
  3. Shade the recesses of the armour panels Agrax Earthshade
  4. Touch up the armour panels with Russ Grey
  5. Highlight the grey/blue armour panels with Fenrisian Grey

BONE ARMOUR PANELS

  1. Layer these armour panels with Ushabti Bone
  2. Shade the recesses of armour panels with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Touch up the armour panels with Ushabti Bone
  4. Edge highlight the armour panels with Screaming Skull
  5. Highlight the bone armour panels with Screaming Skull

ARMOUR TRIM

  1. Basecoat the trim of the armour with Leadbelcher
  2. Layer the trim of the armour with Ironbreaker
  3. Wash the recesses of the armour and any planes you wish for the metal to be darker with Nuln Oil
  4. Edge highlight the trim with Stormhost Silver

METAL RAILINGS

  1. Basecoat the metal railings with Leadbelcher
  2. Apply a wash to the metal railings with Nuln Oil
  3. Drybrush the metal railings with Necron Compound

PILOT WINDOW

  1. Basecoat the pilot window with Kantor Blue
  2. Highlight the bottom of the window with Russ Grey You want this highlight to be chunky to allow room for the others while still being able to see the previous.
  3. Apply a second highlight of Fenrisian Grey again keeping not covering all of the previous highlight.
  4. Lastly apply a highlight of White Scar towards the top of the pilot window.

BASING

  1. Basecoat the base with Mechanicus Standard Grey
  2. Apply Astrogranite Debris all over the base
  3. Wash the base with Agrax Earthshade
  4. Drybrush the base with Tyrant Skull
