Adeptus Custodes: Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnought

A step by step guide to my Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnought in my custom Adeptus Custodes Scheme.

  1. Undercoat the model with Chaos Black

Metal (Body)

  1. Basecoat the area's on the body you wish to be metal with Leadbelcher
  2. Wash the metal twice with Nuln Oil
  3. Highlight the metal with a drybrush of Necron Compound
  4. (Optional) Edge highlight the metal with Stormhost Silver

Black Armour

  1. Basecoat the black armor with Abaddon Black
  2. Edge highlight with Mechanicus Standard Grey
  3. Second edge highlight or spot highlight with Dawnstone

Gold Trim/Details

  1. Basecoat the area's of the model you wish to be gold with Retributor Armour
  2. Wash the gold with Guilliman Flesh
  3. Layer the gold with Retributor Armour
  4. Edge highlight the gold with Liberator Gold

Blue Armour

  1. Basecoat the shoulder pads & any other details you wish to be blue with The Fang
  2. Layer the blue with Russ Grey
  3. Shade the recesses with Nuln Oil
  4. Glaze the darker areas of the armour with The Fang use thin coats and build this to an effect that you are happy with.
  5. Edge highlight the blue area's with Fenrisian Grey

Weapon - Sword

  1. Basecoat the areas on the sword you wish to be metal with Leadbelcher
  2. Basecoat the grip of the sword with Screamer Pink
  3. Basecoat the flamer on the sword with Brass Scorpion
  4. Wash the sword with Nuln Oil
  5. Edge highlight the metal and brass on the sword with Necron Compound

Weapon - Sword Blade

  1. Basecoat the blade of the sword in Caliban Green
  2. Glaze one side of the sword with Warpstone Glow starting from 3/4's of the blade up to the point. Apply a second coat once the first of the glazes is dry and build up the colour over multiple coats.
  3. Glaze the same side but this time with Moot Green apply the first glaze leaving some of the previous glaze to create the blend up to the moot green
  4. Once the glaze is complete on the first side, repeat the above step however this time working from the point down to the base of the sword
  5. Once the glaze is complete then apply an edge highlight of on the sword of Moot Green

Eyes

  1. Basecoat the eyes with Ulthuan Grey
  2. Apply Waywatcher Green top the eyes
  3. Depending on the effect you wish to go for apply a second glaze of Waywatcher Green

Gems

  1. Basecoat the gems with Caliban Green
  2. Layer half of the gem with Warpfiend Grey
  3. Highlight/Layer half of the previous step with Moot Green

Basing

  1. Basecoat the base with Steel Legion Drab
  2. Apply Agrellan Badland all over the base
  3. Once the texture paint is dry apply patches of Burnt Umber
  4. Wash the base all over with Agrax Earthshade
  5. Drybrush the base with Tyrant Skull
  6. Paint the rim of the base with Steel Legion Drab
  7. To finish off the base apply Verdia Veldt Tufts from Citadel in selected areas
