Red Armour
- Basecoat with Khorne Red .
- Add some general shading with 1:1 Khorne Red and Incubi Darkness .
- Mix some of the previous paint 1:1 with Black and shade the deepest part of the recesses.
- Add chunky highlights with Wazdakka Red .
- Now apply fine highlights with 1:1 Wazdakka Red and Wild Rider Red .
- Selectively highlight with Wild Rider Red .
- Finish with very small/specular highlights of Jokaero Orange .
Brass Details
- Basecoat with 1:1 Balthasar Gold and Silver RLM01 Metallic .
- Shade with some thinned Cygor Brown , focusing in the deepest areas on a second pass.
- Mix some Silver RLM01 Metallic into the base colour and highlights.
- Finish with very small/specular highlights with pire Silver RLM01 Metallic .
Green Armour
- Basecoat the armour with Death Guard Green .
- With Athonian Camoshade add some general shading to the recesses.
- Mix Rhinox Hide and Caliban Green 1:1 and shade deeper recesses with fine lines. I keep this mix pretty thin to control it easier.
- Add chunky highlights with Ogryn Camo , with a little Death Guard Green mixed in. Probably around 4:1.
- Add smaller, fine highlights with Krieg Khaki .
- Mix some White into the Krieg Khaki and selectively highlight corners.
- Finish the armour with specular highlights of White .
Bronze Details
- Basecoat with Hashut Copper . Mix a small amount of Doombull Brown into it, to help to establish a solid colour.
- Shade with Agrax Earthshade .
- Further define the deepest recesses and around rivets with Cygor Brown .
- Mix some Silver RLM01 Metallic into the base colour and highlights.
- Finish with very small/specular highlights with pire Silver RLM01 Metallic .
Blue Armour
- Basecoat with 1:1 Kantor Blue and Teclis Blue .
- Add some general shading with Kantor Blue .
- Mix some Black into the Kantor Blue and shade the deepest part of the recesses.
- Add general highlights of Teclis Blue on all edges and exposed areas.
- Highlight more selectively with 1:1 Teclis Blue and Blue Horror =.
- Finish with very small/specular highlights of Blue Horror .
Gold Details
- Basecoat with 3:1 Retributor Armour and Silver RLM01 Metallic .
- Shade with some thinned Gore-grunta Fur .
- Further define the deepest recesses and around rivets with Cygor Brown .
- Mix some Silver RLM01 Metallic into the base colour and highlights.
- Finish with very small/specular highlights with pire Silver RLM01 Metallic .
Purple Armour
- Basecoat with Barak-Nar Burgundy .
- Add some general shading with Naggaroth Night .
- Mix some Black into the Naggaroth Night and shade the deepest part of the recesses.
- Add general highlights of 1:1 Naggaroth Night and Screamer Pink on all edges and exposed areas.
- Mix the previous stages paint 1:2 with Deepkin Flesh and add fine highlights to all edges.
- Mix the above paint 1:1 with more Deepkin Flesh and selectively highlight.
- Finish with very small/specular highlights of Deepkin Flesh .
Black Leather
- Basecoat with Black .
- Highlight with Incubi Darkness .
- Apply fine highlights with 1:1 Incubi Darkness and Deepkin Flesh .
- Selectively highlight with Deepkin Flesh .
- Finish with specular highlights of 1:1 Deepkin Flesh and White .
Black Leather (Neutral)
- Basecoat with Black .
- Highlight with Skavenblight Dinge .
- Apply fine highlights with Stormvermin Fur .
- Selectively highlight with Karak Stone .
- Finish with specular highlights of 1:1 Karak Stone and White .
Dark Brown Leather
- Basecoat the leather area with Rhinox Hide .
- Glaze most of the leather with thinned Mournfang Brown . Use quite a small brush and drag towards edges in rough lines. This should create some extra texture.
- Add a chunky edge highlight of Skrag Brown to all edges.
- Highlight everything again, this time with a fine line of Skrag Brown and Ushabti Bone mixed 1:1. This is a good mix to throw in occasional fine lines as scratches too.
- With pure Ushabti Bone , selectively highlight corners and exposed edges of the leather. Put a dot of this colour where the additional scratched above meet edges too.
- Add a little pure white (like Dead White ) to your Ushabti Bone and add dot highlights to corners.
Wood
- Basecoat with 1:1 Dryad Bark & Mournfang Brown .
- Run some thin Rhinox Hide into recesses, where the wood meats other marterial.
- Add lines of woodgrain with with a 1:1 mix of the base colour & Karak Stone .
- Selectively highlight within the previous lines with Karak Stone .
Wrapping
- Basecoat with Steel Legion Drab .
- Wsash with Agrax Earthshade
- Pick out edges with a careful overbrush of :Citadel/KarakStone, pulling your prush towards the centre.
- Mix your Karak Stone 1:1 with Ushabti Bone and highlight the central portion of the staff.
- Add a selective highlight within the previous stage with Screaming Skull .
- Optionally, finish with some very small White highlights, towards the top of the wrappings.
Horns
- Basecoat with Ushabti Bone .
- Wash with a 1:1 mix of Skeleton Horde and Contrast Medium , pulling pigment towards the base of the horn.
- Glaze XV-88 towards the base of the horns, coverring about one-third, but coverring more on downward facing surfaces.
- Repeat the above step with Mournfang Brown , coverring a smaller area.
- Finish with a small amount of Doombull Brown .
Steel
- Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
- Shade with glazes of Gryph-charger Grey .
- Mix a little Black into your Gryph-charger Grey , then further define the shading.
- Highlight with Ironbreaker .
- Finish with selective highlights of Silver RLM01 Metallic .
I used the same basic method for the axe of the greem armoured Chaos Warrior, but switched out the Gryph-charger Grey for some Agrax Earthshade . This was just to make the steel look dirtier.
