How I paint my Necrons
Basecoat
- Basecoat Red Brown
- Airbrush Runelord Brass over entire model
Metal basecoats
- Joints, weapon metal and light purple metal (Doomsday Ark/Ghost Ark) with Dark Silver or Black Metal
- Head/shoulders with Canoptek Alloy
- Tripod legs Castellax Bronze
- Dark purple metal (Lokhust Destroyer) with Castellax Bronze with a drop of Molotow Purple Violet added to tint (a deep purple ink could also work)
- Gold with Viking Gold
Metal shading
- 2 coats of a 1:1 mix of Reikland Fleshshade / Agrax Earthshade over the Runelord Brass panels. Draw the shade towards the lower parts of the panels on the second coat
- Reikland Fleshshade over gold armour
- 1:1 Black Templar / Contrast Medium on the silver metal
- 1:1 Nuln Oil / Agrax Earthshade on head/shoulders, tripod legs, weapon metal and dark purple metal (Lokhust Destroyer)
- 1:1 Nuln Oil / Druchii Violet on light purple metal (Doomsday Ark/Ghost Ark)
Metal highlights
- Drybrush Runelord Brass on brass panels and tripod legs
- Drybrush Canoptek Alloy on head/shoulders.
- Drybrush Silver RLM01 Metallic on weapon metal and light purple metal (Doomsday Ark/Ghost Ark)
- Drybrush gold with Elven Gold
- Drybrush dark purple metal (Lokhust Destroyer) with Runelord Brass and a touch of Molotow Purple Violet added to tint.
Gun casing, black masks
- Basecoat Black
- Fat edge highlight with Incubi Darkness
- Thin edge highlight with Thunderhawk Blue
- Pin/corner highlight with Blue Horror
Green energy
- Basecoat White
- Airbrush area with White Ink
- Airbrush a 4:1 mix of GSW Fluorescent Yellow to GSW Fluorescent Green
Blades
- Basecoat 1:1 Waaagh! Flesh / Moot Green
- Glaze Caliban Green into the darker sections
- Very thin Coal Black glaze into the darkest sections
- Glaze 1:1:1 Moot Green / Flash Gitz Yellow / White into the lighter sections
- Edge highlight with the 1:1:1 Moot Green / Flash Gitz Yellow / White mix
- Final edge highlight with White
Bases
- Glue crystals to base and apply Vallejo Earth Texture paint
- Basecoat Black
- Drybrush Stormvermin Fur
- Apply a mix of AK Interactive Black pigment and Forgeworld Black Soot pigment to the base. Wipe off excess with finger to expose some of the drybrushed Stormvermin Fur
- Apply Gamers Grass 6mm Alien Turquoise wild tufts
- Rim the base with Black
