How I paint my Necrons

Basecoat

  1. Basecoat Red Brown
  2. Airbrush Runelord Brass over entire model

Metal basecoats

  1. Joints, weapon metal and light purple metal (Doomsday Ark/Ghost Ark) with Dark Silver or Black Metal
  2. Head/shoulders with Canoptek Alloy
  3. Tripod legs Castellax Bronze
  4. Dark purple metal (Lokhust Destroyer) with Castellax Bronze with a drop of Molotow Purple Violet added to tint (a deep purple ink could also work)
  5. Gold with Viking Gold

Metal shading

  1. 2 coats of a 1:1 mix of Reikland Fleshshade / Agrax Earthshade over the Runelord Brass panels. Draw the shade towards the lower parts of the panels on the second coat
  2. Reikland Fleshshade over gold armour
  3. 1:1 Black Templar / Contrast Medium on the silver metal
  4. 1:1 Nuln Oil / Agrax Earthshade on head/shoulders, tripod legs, weapon metal and dark purple metal (Lokhust Destroyer)
  5. 1:1 Nuln Oil / Druchii Violet on light purple metal (Doomsday Ark/Ghost Ark)

Metal highlights

  1. Drybrush Runelord Brass on brass panels and tripod legs
  2. Drybrush Canoptek Alloy on head/shoulders.
  3. Drybrush Silver RLM01 Metallic on weapon metal and light purple metal (Doomsday Ark/Ghost Ark)
  4. Drybrush gold with Elven Gold
  5. Drybrush dark purple metal (Lokhust Destroyer) with Runelord Brass and a touch of Molotow Purple Violet added to tint.

Gun casing, black masks

  1. Basecoat Black
  2. Fat edge highlight with Incubi Darkness
  3. Thin edge highlight with Thunderhawk Blue
  4. Pin/corner highlight with Blue Horror

Green energy

  1. Basecoat White
  2. Airbrush area with White Ink
  3. Airbrush a 4:1 mix of GSW Fluorescent Yellow to GSW Fluorescent Green

Blades

  1. Basecoat 1:1 Waaagh! Flesh / Moot Green
  2. Glaze Caliban Green into the darker sections
  3. Very thin Coal Black glaze into the darkest sections
  4. Glaze 1:1:1 Moot Green / Flash Gitz Yellow / White into the lighter sections
  5. Edge highlight with the 1:1:1 Moot Green / Flash Gitz Yellow / White mix
  6. Final edge highlight with White

Bases

  1. Glue crystals to base and apply Vallejo Earth Texture paint
  2. Basecoat Black
  3. Drybrush Stormvermin Fur
  4. Apply a mix of AK Interactive Black pigment and Forgeworld Black Soot pigment to the base. Wipe off excess with finger to expose some of the drybrushed Stormvermin Fur
  5. Apply Gamers Grass 6mm Alien Turquoise wild tufts
  6. Rim the base with Black
