Pale Green Skin
- Basecoat with 1:1 Fenrisian Grey and Karak Stone .
- Mix Baneblade Brown and Sons of Horus Green 1:1, then add some general shading to the skin, glazing it onto downward facing skin.
- With 2:1 Sons of Horus Green and Black , shade the skin more selectively. and leave a solid fine line between the fingers and where the skin meets other materials.
- Now is a good point to pick out the eye. I did this with Averland Sunset , before highlighting the middle with a mix of : Averland Sunset and Ice Yellow . Before finishing with a specular White highlight.
- Mix some of the original basecoat 1:1 with Ionrach Skin , then highlight the skin.
- Selectively highlight with pure Ionrach Skin .
- Add some White to the Ionrach Skin , and finish with some small highlights.
Full disclosure, I wasn't happy with how the eyeball looked whne I was done. To fix this I glazed the eyeball with Wild Rider Red and highlighted it again. I think this adds a lot.
Dark Purple Leather
- Basecoat with 2:1 Barak-Nar Burgundy and Knight-questor Flesh .
- Add some Black to the base colour, thin it and then add shading to recesses.
- Mix some of the base colour 1:1 with more Knight-questor Flesh , then highlight.
- Mix a portion of the above paint 1:1 with Ushabti Bone and highlight more selectively.
- Finally, add very small highlights with pure Ushabti Bone .
Green Skin
- Basecoat with 1:1 Karak Stone and Loren Forest .
- Mix Loren Forest and Vulkan Green 1:1, then add some general shading to the skin, glazing it onto downward facing skin.
- With Vulkan Green , shade the skin more selectively.
- Finish the shading with a 1:1 mix of Vulkan Green and Rhinox Hide to sperate fingers and where the skin meets other materials.
- Now is a good point to pick out the eye. I did this with Sotek Green , before highlighting the middle with a mix of Thousand Sons Blue and Gauss Blaster Green . Before finishing with a specular White highlight.
- Add general highlights to the skin with a mix of the base colour and Ionrach Skin , making your highlights chunkier on corners and exposed curves.
- Highlight more selectively with pure Ionrach Skin , within the previous stage.
- Finish with very small highlights of 1:1 Ionrach Skin skin and White .
Blue Cloth/Leather
- Basecoat with Stegadon Scale Green .
- With 1:1 Stegadon Scale Green and Black , shade the recesses and around the studs.
- Mix some 1:1 Stegadon Scale Green and Thunderhawk Blue , then use it to add highlights to the leather.
- Apply fine highlights of Thunderhawk Blue .
- Highlight selectively with 1:1 Thunderhawk Blue and Fenrisian Grey .
- Add some White to the above mix and finish with some small highlights.
Humanoid Skin
- Basecoat with 1:1 Cadian Fleshtone and Kislev Flesh .
- Add a small amount of Doombull Brown to you basecolour, roughly 1:2. Use this mix to add some general shading to the skin, glazing it onto downward facing skin.
- Increase the amount of Doombull Brown in the mix, so that it is now rougly 2:1. With this darker colour, shade the skin more selectively.
- Finish the shading by using thin lines of pure Doombull Brown to sperate fingers and where the skin meets other materials.
- Now is a good point to pick out the eye. I did this with Celestra Grey , before highlighting the middle with Ulthuan Grey and a specular White highlight.
- Add general highlights to the skin with a mix of the base colour and a small amount of Blue Horror (3:1 if you wanted a ratio), making your highlights chunkier on corners and exposed curves.
- Now mix the above paint 2:1 with White and selectively highlight.
- Increase the amount of White again, so it is a very bright "off-white" and finish with some small highlights.
Dark Brown Leather
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
- Add chunky highlights with Doombull Brown .
- Apply fine highlights with Mournfang Brown .
- Highlight selectively with XV-88 .
- Mix some White into the XV-88 and finish with very small highlights.
Teeth
- Pick out the teeth with 1:1 Rhinox Hide and XV-88 .
- Highlight the tooth with pure XV-88 , coverring everything but the recesses.
- Highlight with Ushabti Bone .
- Now highlight a little more selectively with Screaming Skull .
- Finish with a very small Wraithbone highlight.
Wood
- Basecoat with 1:1 Dryad Bark & Mournfang Brown .
- Run some thin Dryad Bark into recesses. Don't worry about doing this on woodgrain, just deep recesses and where the wood meats other marterial.
- Highlight with a 1:1 mix of the base colour & Karak Stone .
- Selectively highlight with Karak Stone .
- Optionally, selectively edge highlight with 2:1 Karak Stone & Wraithbone if you want to go the extra mile.
Steel
- Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
- If you are painting the chainmail, wash with Nuln Oil .
- On the blade, shade with glazes of Basilicanum Grey . Mixing a little Black in and being more selective with a second pass.
- Highlight with Ironbreaker .
- Finish with selective Silver RLM01 Metallic highlights.
Gold
- Basecoat with a mix of 3 parts Retributor Armour , 1 part Silver RLM01 Metallic and 1 part Gore-grunta Fur . You could just use pure Retributor Armour , but I prefer this mix.
- Shade with Gore-grunta Fur thinned with an equal amount of Lahmian Medium .
- Shade thie deepest recesses with 1:1 Doombull Brown and Black .
- Mix more Silver RLM01 Metallic into the base colour, then highlight the gold. I would recommend doing this a couple of times, highlighting a smaller area on the second pass.
- Finish with some small Silver RLM01 Metallic Highlight, where needed.
