Basic, clean recipe for Deathwatch Kill Team.

Subassemblies and Priming

Build as much of the model as possible while still maintaining access to details. I kept all the heads and backpacks separate. For the Gunner, Marksman and Gravis armor models that have two hands on the weapons I glued the arms and guns together, making sure it all meshed well.

Prime all bodies, arms, heads and backpacks with black primer. Keep any bare heads or lighter colored shoulders separate and prime with white primer.

Undersuit

  1. Layer a dark grey of your choice into the flexible armor joints. Stormvermin Fur or Basalt Grey work well.
  2. Heavy wash Nuln Oil over the joints
  3. (Optional) edge highlight ribbing of joints with grey base coat used before.

Black Armor

  1. Thin black paint of your choice and smoothly cover entire model. Black primer has a different sheen and color than most paints and a thin layer with make touch ups later less of an issue.
  2. Chunky edge highlight with Dark Reaper along most of the armor edges
  3. Mid-weighted edge highlight with Thunderhawk Blue . Make sure you leave some Dark Reaper showing.
  4. Fine edge highlight with Fenrisian Grey along sharpest edges.

Deathwatch Silver Shoulder and Arm

  1. Layer the left shoulder and arm with a mid-tone silver. I chose to use Oily Steel to keep it a separate color than the rest of the steel on the model.
  2. Wash the arm and shoulder with Nuln Oil
  3. Drybrush with Necron Compound

Leather

  1. Base with Doombull Brown . Apply 2 coats to develop a good base.
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Thin Doombull Brown and carefully layer over larger pouches and holsters, accentuating the leather.
  4. Edge highlight all leather with Skrag Brown .

Gun Casing

  1. Evenly apply Mephiston Red to gun casings. It will take at least two thin coats to develop good coverage over metallics or black primer.
  2. Pin wash or lightly wash entire casing with Nuln Oil .
  3. Edge highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet

Details

  1. Steel. Base with Iron Hands Steel . Wash with Nuln Oil . Dry brush with Necron Compound .
  2. Gold. Base with Retributor Armour . Wash with Agrax Earthshade . Highlight/dry brush with lighter gold.
  3. Weapon grips. Base with Khorne Red . Wash with Nuln Oil . Layer back with Khorne Red . Edge with Tuskgor Fur .
  4. Servo Skulls. Base with Wraithbone , wash with Skeleton Horde , layer/high light with Screaming Skull .
  5. Purity Seal. Base with Wraithbone , wash with Skeleton Horde .

Wax. Base with Mephiston Red , wash with Agrax Earthshade , highlight with Mephiston Red .
  6. Skin. I used Guilliman Flesh or Darkoath Flesh over a white or Wraithbone base to vary skin tones. Thin highlights with Kislev Flesh .

Xenophase Blade

I tried to follow Duncan Rhodes recipe from his instagram. The greens from his paint line are absolutely amazing. Emerald Green , Ethereal Green and Talisman Green blended and edge highlighted. I stopped there, but you could use a bright yellow to take it that extra bit.

Power Sword

Traditional cross blend from Macragge Blue to Caledor Sky to Skink Blue . Edge highlight with Skink Blue and White Scar over the lighter part of the blade.
