Red Skin
- Basecoat with Khorne Red .
- Shade with a thin mix of 1:1 Khorne Red and Rhinox Hide .
- Glaze upward facing areas with Evil Sunz Scarlet .
- Highlight using Tuskgor Fur .
- Add fine highlights of 1:1 Tuskgor Fur and Fire Dragon Bright .
- Selectively highlight with pure Fire Dragon Bright .
- Add specular highlights with 1:1 Fire Dragon Bright .
Ordinarily, I would advise sticking to the face and very pointed areas with these highlights. However, here I coverred all of the skin with them in areas that would catch light. Then, i glazed them back down with some very thin Khorne Red . This is simply because I wanted to go the extra mile with this iconic model, and it is far from necessary.
Eyes
- Basecoat with Caliban Green .
- Highlight with Warpstone Glow .
- Highlight more selectively with Moot Green .
- Finish with a specular Ice Yellow (or Dorn Yellow ) highlight.
Tongue
- Basecoat with Screamer Pink .
- Shade with Druchii Violet .
- Highlight with Pink Horror .
- Mix some Kislev Flesh into the Pink Horror and highlight more selectively.
- Finish with very small Kislev Flesh highlights.
Teeth
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
- Pick out individual teeth with XV-88 .
- Highlight with Ushabti Bone .
- Highlight more selectively with Screaming Skull .
- Finish with specular Wraithbone highlights on the tips of the most well defined teeth.
Wing Transition
- Basecoat with 1:1 Khorne Red and Rhinox Hide .
- Add chunky highlights of Khorne Red .
- Apply fine highlights of 1:1 Khorne Red and Squig Orange .
- Highlight more selectively with Squig Orange .
- Mix you Squig Orange 1:1 with Lugganath Orange , then add very small highlights within the last stage.
Wing Membranes
- Basecoat with Black .
- Highlight the edges of the folds in the wings with Stegadon Scale Green and glaze towards the "tips".
- Add fine edge highlights with 1:1 Stegadon Scale Green and Sons of Horus Green .
- Mix some Deepkin Flesh into the above paint and highlight selectively on curves and points.
- Finish with specular Deepkin Flesh highlights.
Leather Whip and Straps
- Basecoat with 1:1 Incubi Darkness and Black .
- Shade recesses and the downward facing portions with Black glazes.
- Add chunky highlights with Incubi Darkness .
- Apply finer highlights with a mix of 2:1 Incubi Darkness and Karak Stone .
- Selectively highlight with 1:2 Incubi Darkness and Karak Stone .
- Finish with very small highlights of Karak Stone and White .
It is particuarly easy to overdo this recipes on the whip. When I was done, mine looked too chalky and the highlights quite stark. if you fin yourself in a similar situation, I would recommend glazing it down with Incubi Darkness , pulling the brush away from the highlights.
Brass Trim
- Basecoat with Canoptek Alloy .
- Take some 1:1 Warplock Bronze and Retributor Armour and thin it heavily with water, until it is the consistency of a wash. Now apply this wash all over the armour, pulling pigment to oward recesses and details.
- Enhance the shading provided by the wash, using glazes of Warplock Bronze .
- Define the deepest parts of recesses, and where the metal meets other materials, with thin lines of Rhinox Hide .
- Basecoat: Canoptek Alloy
Wash: Warplock Bronze & Retributor Armour 1:1
Recess Wash: Rhinox Hide
Glaze: Warplock Bronze
Highlight: Auric Armour Gold & Liberator Gold
Highlight: Canoptek Alloy
Highlight: Silver
Sword
- Basecoat with Balthasar Gold .
- Basecoat: Balthasar Gold
Highlight: Balthasar Gold, Auric Armour Gold & Silver 1:1:1
Glaze: Warplock Bronze & Previous Mix 1:1
Recess Wash: Black & Doombull Brown 1:1
Chainmail
- Basecoat with Black .
- Overbrush with Leadbelcher .
- Highlight ringlets with Ironbreaker .
- Finish with selective Silver RLM01 Metallic highlights.
