This is how I painted my Infernus Marine from the 'Getting Started with Warhammer 40k' set. It isn't that good, but I'm just a beginner, and this recipe is meant for beginners. Multiple options, so choose what you want to do.

Remember, this is for a specific miniature, so you probably won't have to follow all the steps if you have a different miniature, but you can still use techniques from this recipe to make your characters Battle Ready!

Armor (Not Helmet)

1. Prime with Khorne Red to add a bit of a dark background color. Make sure to cover every inch of the miniature's armor, so the next step can look better. Spray Painting is fine
2. Paint over with another few layers of Mephiston Red , which will give you the more classic color for the Blood Angels. You can be more lazy with this painting, so the effect of the Khorne Red can really sink in, whether it acts as shade or battle damage.
3. Use Abaddon Black to color in the details like the Space Marine's undersuit and the chest aquila, as well as details on the power pack.
4. For the pouches on the back of the miniature's armor, I would recommend that you use a brown like Skrag Brown or Mournfang Brown , but you can also use a black if you want a more tactical look.
5. I used Leadbelcher to add details to the power pack, but that's optional if you're going for quantity, not quality (as many steps will be).
6. Finally, if you want a more detailed figure, add additions like painting the right knee pad a certain color to put squad markings, or paint the pauldrons differently to match rank.

Helmet

Note: The helmet was really annoying for me, so I'm going to try and make it easy and simple for you, separate from the steps for the armor.

1. You can paint the main color for your Infernus Marine two ways, with either a yellow, I prefer Averland Sunset , or a blue, either Kantor Blue or Macragge Blue . There is a lot of controversy over whether the Infernus Marine's helmet should be blue (box art) or yellow (codex), so you pick. I chose yellow.
2. Paint the eyes/visor-thingy a green, preferably Warpstone Glow .
3. Finally, add metallic details on the side of their helmet and the pipes using Leadbelcher , then use Abaddon Black to color in the undersuit part of the helmet.

Weapons

1. Start off the weapons by giving them a base coat of Abaddon Black .
2. Now, for the Pyreblaster, use Balthasar Gold for the big area with the holes, then use Leadbelcher for all other major details. Try to find an image for reference (it's hard to describe well).
3. For the gunsling, I recommend that you paint it a brown, like Skrag Brown or Mournfang Brown . However, you could also use black if you want a more tactical look, like with the pouches on the armor.
4. For the Bolt Pistol, all you need to do is use Leadbelcher for the end of the barrel that sticks out of the gun.
5. Finally, use Nuln Oil to add shade to both your weapons. Simple as that!

Purity Seals

Note: From what I know, there are many ways to do Purity Seals, so I'll let you choose.

1. For the Wax: You can use any range of colors, but the most lore accurate would probably be Khorne Red . However, I don't think that it looks as good, so you could do any bright or semi-bright color, like Kantor Blue or Naggaroth Night .
2. Paper Option 1: Use Corax White to paint the paper for the Purity Seal and you could also add Abaddon Black for the writing on the paper.
3. Paper Option 2: Use Rakarth Flesh and then a coat of Agrax Earthshade to give the paper a weathered look. You can still also add the Abaddon Black for the writing.

Base

Note: As is it with every single Warhammer miniature, what you do for the base if purely up to you, based on what terrain you want your character on or even minor details like what planet they're on, what species they're fighting, or what they specialize in. Even so, I'll tell you what I did for my base. (P.S. This set of instructions for this base only applies to the base for the 'Getting Started' Infernus Marine. Even so, you can still read if you want to.)

1. Paint the entire base with Abaddon Black . I painted only the sides of the base with black, because it allows the next steps to go smoother, but it's up to you.
2. Paint the rocks and the terrain with grey, preferably Astrogranite . I used this paint because it added texture along with the grey, but you could use any grey you want to get the color you want. I then went over the areas just painted grey, specifically the gravel/sand areas with Agrax Earthshade to add a more earthy look to the terrain.
3. This specific model has metal bars as part of the terrain for the base, so just paint those Leadbelcher .
4. Paint the Pyreblaster fuel canister on the ground Balthasar Gold , then use Leadbelcher to do the details and the skull.
5. This model also has a bit of Tyranid biomass (of some sort), but I didn't necessarily have the right colors to paint it, so I used Bugman's Glow , then painted the circular bulges Mephiston Red , and used Agrax Earthshade to shade in the areas with red to look a little different of a color. However, as I said, feel free to paint this however you want.
6. The Infernus Marine's feet are part of the base, so just color those Mephiston Red .
