I wanted to do a Stormcast Stormhost with a green based color palette, but I didn't really like the official hosts, so I made up my own.
Aeldari Emerald 1) Start with a Zenithal highlight prime, then paint all of the armour plates ( except pauldrons) with Aeldari Emerald. You can paint the cloth with this as well, if you want, but I prefer to do that at a later step.
Black Templar 2) Paint over the top of the armour again, this time with Black Templar. You want nice, even coverage while still being able to see a hint of the green underneath.
Aeldari Emerald 3) If you haven't painted the cloth yet, do so now with Aeldari Emerald. Include banners, tassels etc. - Eldritch If you have any tidemarks left from the contrast paints, now would be a good time to clean those up, using Formula P3 Eldritch as a midtone color for the cloth and...
- Lupercal Green for the armour.
- Garaghak's Sewer 4) Paint the leather (excluding pouches) with Garaghak's Sewer
Retributor Armour 5) Paint all of the armour and weapon trim with Retributor Armour. If you are painting the Champion, paint the pauldrons in their entirety. Otherwise, just paint the trim and the details (lightning bolt, face of Sigmar). Don't forget details like belt buckles, and the 'attachment bits' (sorry...don't know what they're actually called) that connect belt accessories (such as the short swords on their back hips)
Guilliman Flesh Fyreslayer Flesh 6) Paint the base skintones. I used Guilliman Flesh for the pale tone, Fyreslayer Flesh for the medium tone, and then I painted a layer of Guilliman, let it dry and then a layer of Fyreslayer over the top of that for the darker tone. (The camera is washing out the tones a little...the differences are definitely more pronounced to the naked eye)- Snakebite Leather 7) Paint the pouches with Snakebite Leather.
Auric Armour Gold 8) I wanted more of a polished brass look for the horns, so I went with Auric Armour Gold for the base coat.
Leadbelcher 9) Paint the sword blades and banner staffs (other than the grip fabric and the trim) with Leadbelcher.
Administratum Grey Ulthuan Grey White Scar 10) Paint the pauldrons of the non-champion models as well as the Sigmar face on the banners with Administratum Grey, then layering Ulthuan Grey and White Scar to create a smooth transition from shadow to highlights.
Gryph-hound Orange Sigvald Burgundy 11) For the crest of the champion's helmet, use a 4:1 mix of Gryphhound Orange and Sigvald Burgundy. You can also use this if you want any of your models to have ginger hair (which I did 😉)
Pallid Wych Flesh 12) Paint 'ribbon' under Sigmar's face on the banners with Pallid Wych Flesh.
