This guide is a work in progress for now. I will update all of the recipes used as I go, but plan on finishing up each of the models when I feel inspired.

Skin

  1. Basecoat with 2:1 Cadian Fleshtone and Mournfang Brown .
  2. Increase the amount of Mournfang Brown in the above mix and shade the skin.
  3. Mix the base colour 2:1 with Ushabti Bone and add chunky highlights.
  4. Increase the amount of Ushabti Bone in the above mix, so it is about 1:2 now. use this for finer highlights.
  5. Mix in a little White and selectively highlight.
  6. Increase the amount of White in the mix, until it is a subtle off-white. Now pick out a few specular highlights.

When it came to the shaved portion in the centre of his head, I highlighted as normal, then mixed a little Dawnstone into the initial highlight colour. With this mix, glaze the section then highlight if needed. This should add a subtle grey.

Blue cloth

  1. Basecoat with Dark Reaper .
  2. Shade with thin lines of 2:1 Dark Reaper and Black .
  3. Apply chunky highlights of 2:1 Dark Reaper and Teclis Blue .
  4. Increase the amount of Teclis Blue in the mix, so it is now 2:1 with Dark Reaper . Use this colour for fine highlights of folds and edges.
  5. Selectively highlight with Hoeth Blue .
  6. Finish with specular/very small Blue Horror highlights.

Black Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Black .
  2. Add chunky highlights with Eshin Grey .
  3. Apply finer highlights of Stormvermin Fur .
  4. Mix some Administratum Grey into your Stormvermin Fur and highlight more selectively.
  5. Add some White to the above mix, and finish off the cloth with specular highlights.

It is very easy to go overboard with the highlighting of this cloth, especially on large, more detailed patches.. If you fin yourself in this situation, thin down some Black HEAVILY and glaze over the cloth, pulling your brush towards the darkest parts, then re-highlight a smaller area.

Red Sash

  1. Basecoat with Word Bearers Red .
  2. Shade with a 1:1 mix of Word Bearers Red and Incubi Darkness .
  3. Apply chunky highlights with Wazdakka Red .
  4. Now ad fine highlights with Wild Rider Red .
  5. Mix your Wild Rider Red 1:1 with Ice Yellow and selectively highlight.
  6. Finish with very small highlights of Ice Yellow on corners and curves.

White Cloth

  1. Basecoat with 1:1 Celestra Grey and White .
  2. Glaze some shading in with Fenrisian Grey . be quite generous here, the result will be quite suble, so use it to bring out texture.
  3. With a 1:1 mix of Fenrisian Grey and Dark Reaper , shade the cloth more selectively.
  4. Carefully shade the very deepest recesses (and where the cloth meets other material ) with pure Dark Reaper . Be very selective here and keep your lines thin.
  5. Mix the basecoat 1:1 with :white and pick out edges.
  6. Selectively highlight with pure White .

Straw Hat

  1. Basecoat with 3:1 Steel Legion Drab and White .
  2. Wash with Seraphim Sepia .
  3. Shade deep recesses and where the straw meets other material with Rhinox Hide .
  4. Mix some White into the base colour, then selectively highlight raised details.
  5. Finish with specular White highlights.

Black Saya

  1. Basecoat with Black .
  2. Glaze a highlight of Dark Reaper on raised areas.
  3. Apply fine highlights of Thunderhawk Blue .
  4. Selectively higlight Fenrisian Grey .
  5. Mix some White into your Fenrisian Grey and apply specular highlights on upward facing corners.

Dark Brown Leather

  1. Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
  2. Highlight with Doombull Brown .
  3. Selectively highlight with XV-88 .
  4. Finish with very small/specular highlights of Ushabti Bone .

Green Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Elysian Green .
  2. Add general shading with Deathworld Forest .
  3. Mix your Deathworld Forest 2:1 with :black and shade a smaller area, defining holes and folds.
  4. Apply chunky highlight with a 1:1 mix of Elysian Green and Ogryn Camo .
  5. Now fine highlight everything with Ogryn Camo .
  6. Selectively highlight with Krieg Khaki .
  7. Mix a little White into your Krieg Khaki and finish with a few specular highlights.

Red Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Khorne Red .
  2. Add general shading with 2:1 Khorne Red and Black . Feel free to increase the amount of :black in the mix for shading deeper recesses.
  3. Apply chunky highlights of Wazdakka Red with scratchy lines.
  4. Repeat, with finer highlights of Wild Rider Red .

  2. Add general shading with XV-88 .
  3. With Doombull Brown , shade the deepest recesses with a fine line of Doombull Brown .
  4. Highlight edges and corners with Averland Sunset .
  5. Selectively highlight with Ice Yellow .

Dirty White Cloth

  1. Basecoat with 1:1 Karak Stone and White .
  2. Shade with Agrax Earthshade .
  3. Re-establigh the base colour of 1:1 Karak Stone and White on upward facing folds.
  4. Finish with small White highlights.

Wood Staff

  1. Basecoat with Thondia Brown .
  2. Shade with Rhinox Hide .
  3. Highlight and add woodgrain with a mix of 2:1 Thondia Brown and Steel Legion Drab . I applied this with a drybrush on what was the "centre" from the main viewing angle.
  4. Take the above paint and mix it 1:1 with Administratum Grey . Now use this for finer highlights. This stage, and the following highlights, are best applied with a mix of stippled dots and slashes, always within the previous stages boundary.
  5. Increase the amount of Administratum Grey again, then add selectively highlight.
  6. Finish with a few specular highlights of pure Administratum Grey .

Blades

  1. Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
  2. Shade with a few glazes of Gryph-charger Grey .
  3. Highlight with Ironbreaker .
  4. Highlight more selectively with a 1:1 mix of Ironbreaker and Silver RLM01 Metallic .
  5. Finish with edge highlight of Silver RLM01 Metallic .

Gold Details

  1. Basecoat with Retributor Armour .
  2. Shade with Gore-grunta Fur .
