Collected recipes for different aspects of painting Death Guard models in their classic color scheme.

Green Armor

  1. Basecoat with Death Guard Green
  2. Glaze shadows on bottom facing areas with diluted Athonian Camoshade with some brown mixed in
  3. Glaze top facing areas with a 1:1 mix of Death Guard Green and Ogryn Camo
  4. Medium edge highlight with Ogryn Camo
  5. Filter the armor panels with a 1:1 mix of Plaguebearer Flesh and Contrast Medium
  6. Pin wash armor panels with a dark brown oil wash
  7. Fine edge highlight with Krieg Khaki
  8. Point highlight highest and sharpest areas with a 1:1 mix of Krieg Khaki and Ivory

Gun Casings

  1. Basecoat with German Grey
  2. Recess Shade with Black Templar
  3. Medium Highlight with Dark Sea Blue
  4. Fine highlight with Neutral Grey
  5. Point highlight with Sky Grey if desired
  6. Add rust/verdigris where appropriate

Bronze Trim

  1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Copper and Balthasar Gold
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Medium highlight with pure Copper
  4. Fine highlight with Runelord Brass

Iron/Steel

  1. Basecoat with Gunmetal Grey
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight with Silver
  4. Glaze in Seraphim Sepia on the surfaces close to crevices and corners

Glowing Eye Lenses

  1. Basecoat with Dark Sea Blue
  2. Fill in the lens with Rakarth Flesh but leave a rim of the basecoat
  3. Mix in some Ivory to the Rakarth Flesh and fill in only 50% of the lens or where you want it the brightest
  4. Add a dot of Ivory to the lens where you want the brightest spot would be
  5. Add a layer of Blood Angels Red
  6. Finish with a glaze of the Blood Angels Red on and around the lens for an OSL effect

Red Fabric

  1. Basecoat with Scarlet Red
  2. Recess shade with Dark Sea Blue
  3. Medium highlight with Mephiston Red
  4. Fine highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet
  5. Selective highlight with Wild Rider Red
  6. Point highlight with a 1:1 mix of Wild Rider Red and Sunny Skin Tone

Mutated Flesh

  1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Leather Brown and Screamer Pink
  2. Layer using a 2:1 mix of the previous mix and Kislev Flesh
  3. Layer using a 1:1 mix of the previous mix and Kislev Flesh
  4. Shade with a diluted Reikland Fleshshade
  5. Highlight with pure Kislev Flesh

Dead Pale Flesh

  1. Basecoat with Rakarth Flesh
  2. Highlight with Kislev Flesh
  3. Glaze Druchii Violet on the lower areas
  4. Reestablish the Rakarth Flesh midtone where necessary
  5. Glaze Reikland Fleshshade on higher areas

Tentacles

Glazing between layers can make transitions smoother

  1. Basecoat with Xereus Purple
  2. Layer with a 2:1 mix of Xereus Purple and Magenta
  3. Layer with a 1:1 mix of Xereus Purple and Magenta
  4. Layer with pure Magenta
  5. Layer with a 2:1 mix of Magenta and Kislev Flesh
  6. Layer with a 1:1 mix of Magenta and Kislev Flesh
  7. Highlight with pure Kislev Flesh

Slime

Glazing between layers can make transitions smoother

  1. Basecoat with Warpstone Glow
  2. Layer with Moot Green
  3. Highlight with Averland Sunset

Pustules

  1. Basecoat with Rhinox Hide
  2. Layer with Averland Sunset
  3. Highlight with a 1:1 mix of Averland Sunset and Ivory

Bone

  1. Basecoat with Zandri Dust
  2. Medium highlight with Buff
  3. Wash with diluted Skeleton Horde
  4. Fine highlight with a 1:1 mix of Zandri Dust and Buff
  5. Point highlight with pure Buff
  6. Glaze a 1:1 mix of Rhinox Hide and Skrag Brown towards the tips

Plasma Effect

  1. Basecoat with Fire Dragon Bright
  2. Drybrush Wild Rider Red over the coil ridges
  3. Drybrush Mephiston Red over the tops of the coils
  4. Drybrush Evil Sunz Scarlet on the surfaces around the plasma coils for an OSL effect
  5. Make an oil wash of terracotta and white and to the bottom of the coils
