Note that all base and layer paints are thinned with water, and a touch of liquitex flow-aid. All glazes are made with Glaze Medium .
Initial stepsMy approach is to base and shade the whole miniature before moving to layers and highlights. This is so I can get a sense of how the colours are working together and so that I can correct any painting mistakes more easily. In general, I’m more likely to get paint where I do not desire when basing and shading. This is because the layers and highlights are typically applied to surfaces that do not connect two elements. These connection points are generally in shadow so only the base and shade are applied here.

Base the belly scales with XV-88 . I also base the necklace with Retributor Armour so that I can clean up any mistakes I make painting the back of the necklace

Base the rope elements with Steel Legion Drab , the remaining gold elements with Retributor Armour , the bone elements with Rakarth Flesh , the feathers with Averland Sunset , and the arm weapon with Abaddon Black
Shade bone and rope elements with Agrax Earthshade , gold elements with Reikland Fleshshade , and feathers with Carroburg Crimson
Glaze the flesh with Sotek Green
Glaze chest and belly scales with Tau Light Ochre
Glaze scales with Evil Sunz Scarlet
Apply Ushabti Bone to the skull and claws. Apply a 50/50 mix of Ushabti Bone and Zandri Dust to the spikes on the back of the model. Apply Auric Armour Gold to the gold elements. Apply Fire Dragon Bright to the feathers. Apply a 50/50 mix of Zandri Dust and Steel Legion Drab to the rope elements. Apply Dark Reaper to the arm weapon.
