I just added a new color to this amazing tutorial https://youtu.be/aXfYDlvAyFU?si=1yl_RA1-Gp40oMQ2
Texturing the base
- Texture the base with spots of any basing paste. I use Vallejo Diorama FX Dark Earth, while still wet, I place few rocks (The Army Painter Battlefield Rocks) and then few sand (The Army Painter Brown Battleground) in order to get an interesting texture.
- In order for the crackle paint to adhere to the base, we need to prime the base now, any color will do the work. To save time, Zandri Dust is a good take.
- Use crackle paint everywhere where there is no basing paste. I use Green Stuff World Mojave Mudcrack but Agrellan Earth is fine (just a lot more expensive)
Painting the base
- The first coat needs to be Zandri Dust , by Spray, Airbrush or brush. For something quick and without painting too much of the many on the base, I use Zandri Dust straight from the pot, and dilute it on the base. With a white undercoat, a single coat is sufficient.
- For some diversity of colors, I like to add spots of Dryad Bark and Doombull Brown on the sandy areas (not the crackled ones), with the edges smoothed for a nice transition.
- On the crackled earth, I use Ushabti Bone
- Then an all over wash of Agrax Earthshade
- After the wash, give the base, and especially the sandy areas, a drybrush of Zandri Dust
- Next, light drybrush (sandy areas) and medium drybrush (crackled areas) of Screaming Skull
