I just added a new color to this amazing tutorial https://youtu.be/aXfYDlvAyFU?si=1yl_RA1-Gp40oMQ2

Texturing the base

  1. Texture the base with spots of any basing paste. I use Vallejo Diorama FX Dark Earth, while still wet, I place few rocks (The Army Painter Battlefield Rocks) and then few sand (The Army Painter Brown Battleground) in order to get an interesting texture.
  2. In order for the crackle paint to adhere to the base, we need to prime the base now, any color will do the work. To save time, Zandri Dust is a good take.
  3. Use crackle paint everywhere where there is no basing paste. I use Green Stuff World Mojave Mudcrack but Agrellan Earth is fine (just a lot more expensive)

Painting the base

  1. The first coat needs to be Zandri Dust , by Spray, Airbrush or brush. For something quick and without painting too much of the many on the base, I use Zandri Dust straight from the pot, and dilute it on the base. With a white undercoat, a single coat is sufficient.
  2. For some diversity of colors, I like to add spots of Dryad Bark and Doombull Brown on the sandy areas (not the crackled ones), with the edges smoothed for a nice transition.
  3. On the crackled earth, I use Ushabti Bone
  4. Then an all over wash of Agrax Earthshade
  5. After the wash, give the base, and especially the sandy areas, a drybrush of Zandri Dust
  6. Next, light drybrush (sandy areas) and medium drybrush (crackled areas) of Screaming Skull
