This is my take on the paint scheme of the Heralds of Despair, an off-shoot warband of the Death Guard, featured in the Death Guard codex from 8th Ed. 40k.

The main colours are green and pale copper

General Information:

My general method is to lay down all the base colours for the model, then do all the shading in the recesses before moving on to the highlights.

I don't own an airbrush, so the recipe will mainly consist of brush on paints.

Priming:

I find the metallic sprays from GW tend to be a little on the transparent side, so an initial undercoat of grey helps.

  1. Prime the model lightly with Mechanicus Standard Grey
  2. Prime over that with Leadbelcher

Pale Copper (Armour Trim):

I generally start with the armour trim so that any time I get paint on another piece its easy to cover later.

  1. Drybrush over the model with Canoptek Alloy
  2. Shade the recesses and around the rivets with Agrax Earthshade Gloss
  3. Add a second recess shade with Reikland Fleshshade Gloss
  4. Highlight fine points and sharp edges with Stormhost Silver

Green (Armour Panels):

  1. Base with Warpstone Glow
  2. Shade the recesses with Nuln Oil
  3. Highlight the edges and along the inside of the armour trim with Warboss Green
  4. Highlight fine points with Skarsnik Green

Silver (Details - Chain, Weapons):

  1. For grenades, replace Nuln Oil with Athonian Camoshade
  2. Base with Leadbelcher
  3. Shade the recesses with Nuln Oil
  4. Highlight the edges with Stormhost Silver
  5. Add a rust effect with thinned Skrag Brown

Yellow (Details - Wrap, Cloth):

  1. Base with Averland Sunset
  2. Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight the edges with Ushabti Bone
  4. Add fine points with Screaming Skull

Brown (Details - Leather Pouches):

  1. Base with Rhinox Hide
  2. Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Roughly highlight the edges with Skrag Brown
  4. Add a fine highlight with Ushabti Bone

Black (Details - Armour Ribbing, Weapon Casing):

  1. Base with Abaddon Black
  2. Highlight the edges with Eshin Grey
  3. Highlight fine points with Dawnstone

Brass (Details - Bolter Shells, Chaos Icon):

  1. Base with Balthasar Gold
  2. Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight fine points and sharp edges with Stormhost Silver

Beige (Details - Teeth, Horns):

  1. Base with Rakarth Flesh
  2. Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight tips with Pallid Wych Flesh
