This recipe explains how I painted my Nighthaunt. The process has been on development more or less since the release of AoS 2.0 and I have tweaked the steps to the needs of different units based on the speed, level of detail or the attention I want to give to the model.

Prime the models with Corax White . Make sure you cover the whole miniature with this since we are using the primer as a base coat too.

Shrouds and other ghostly parts

1. Give it a anti-zenithal coat with Nihilakh Oxide . I set my airbrush to 30psi and don't thin the paint. This turquoise paint is thin enough for airbrush use as is.
2. Give a zenithal coat with white. I use Daler Rowney white ink (I will link the paint once it's been added to the database). White can be used as a replacement but be aware that white paint is thicker than ink and getting spackle is easier. I have used both and neither of them require thinning. Since ink is thinner set the airbrush to 20psi.
3. Fix any recess area that the white spray has covered with Nihilakh Oxide . For the shrouded type of ghost, like the Bladegheists, this is the last step.
4. For the Spirit Host and other smokey ghosts that have more rugged detail I give them a wash of Drakenhof Nightshade mixed 1:3 with Thinner Medium .
5. If a ribcage is showing, like in the case of the steed of the KoS (shown in the preview) I apply a glaze of Bone White with the airbrush.
6. For the important units like the Knight of Shrouds shown in the preview I used a very old blue wash named Asurman Blue. Blue may be a good replacement but I have not tested it. This is sprayed on the areas that I want to give more depth. After that I sketch some highlights with White to later apply more detailed highlights on the upper areas with the same white again. Since white doesn't cover with only one coat, this gives a nice gradient.
7. The ghostly flames are painted as the same as the shourds to later receive a glace of Yellow to create the green and yellow colors. This ink can be changed to any other ink as long as the color plays nice with the turquoise underneath. In the case of the KoS I also added a small highlight of Flat Yellow .

Metalics

1. To contrast against the white shrouds I weather all the metallic areas to make them look rusty and old. The steel areas are painted with Oily Steel and the bronzy areas with Balthasar Gold . Then I apply a wash of Sepia Wash to brown the color.
2. The steel is highlighted with Orange Brown by stippling it over the blade, chain or piece of armor. Last, I apply a rought highlight with silver ( Stormhost Silver for best results, Silver RLM01 Metallic for speed). If I'm making scrathes the deepest ones are made with Burnt Umber and highlighted with silver.
3. The bronce areas are highlighed with Balthasar Gold and a mix 1:1 of Balthasar Gold and Stormhost Silver for the important characters. I then weather the bronze with Nihilakh Oxide for the oxide effect.

Going forward

That is the basic process for the main parts of the Nighthaunt units. For other parts of the miniatures like the bone, leather, gravestones other techniques can be plugged in. As long as the result looks old and weathered it will fit nicely with the rest of the composition.
