Here is how I approached painting the Mutants from the 'Accursed Cultists' kit.

Corrupted Flesh

  1. Basecoat with a mix of 3 parts Cadian Fleshtone , 1 part Administratum Grey and 1 part White Scar .
  2. Now wash the skin with a 1:1 mix of Reikland Fleshshade and Contrast Medium .
  3. Enhance shading with Doombull Brown where needed.
  4. Pick out highlights with ahn equal parts mix of Cadian Fleshtone , Administratum Grey and White Scar .
  5. Add some more White Scar to the above for selective highlights.
  6. Finish off points that need extreme highlights with very small dots of pure White Scar .

On the other two torments, I followed the same steps, but switched out the basecolour for a similar pale skin colour. Specifically, I used Flayed One Flesh and Kislev Flesh , but kept everything else the same. This was just to add a little variety.

Purple Cloth

  1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Naggaroth Night and Screamer Pink .
  2. Shade recesses with thinned down Abaddon Black .
  3. Add chunky highlights of Screamer Pink .
  4. Now fine edge highlights of 1:1 Screamer Pink and Ushabti Bone .
  5. Now add some Wraithbone to the mix and selectively highlight corners and points where light would hit.
  6. Add specular highlights of pure Wraithbone , where needed.

Fleshy Tentacles

  1. Basecoat with Screamer Pink .
  2. Wash the tentacle with Druchii Violet . Don't let it pool too much.
  3. With a 1:1 mix of Screamer Pink and Pink Horror Horror cover most of the flesh with a thick glaze. Pulling paint towards the centre always. Paint everything just outside of recesses where the dried shade has dried.
  4. Paint a smaller area with pure Pink Horror . Use the same technique as above to ensure a smooth transition. This time go over around two thirds of the area, painting higher to simulate where light would hit and adding the illusion of depth below.
  5. With a 1:1 mix of Pink Horror and Kislev Flesh flesh paint an even smaller area, pulling even closer to the centre and higher.
  6. With pure Kislev Flesh paint a very small area. For some tentacles I add this highlight as multiple small lines to add texture.
  7. Optionally, add dot highlights of Flayed One Flesh to the points of tentacles and the centre of the previous steps highlights.

Yellow Eyeballs

  1. Basecoat with Wild Rider Red .
  2. Add Yriel Yellow slowly into the Wild Rider Red and apply a layer that covers a slightly smaller area. Repeat this step as many times as necessary, depending upon the size of the eyeball.
  3. Paint the centre of the eyeball with pure Yriel Yellow .
  4. Paint the pupil with a line of Black , making it slightly wider in the centre.
  5. Finish with a small dot of White .

Chitinous Mutations

  1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Screamer Pink and Abaddon Black .
  2. Highlight pick out raised details with glazes/highlights of Screamer Pink .
  3. Fine highlights of 1:1 Screamer Pink and Fenrisian Grey .
  4. Selective highlights of Fenrisian Grey .
  5. Add dots of Ulthuan Grey to select points.

Gold Mask

  1. Basecoat with a 3:1 mix of Vallejo Metal Color Gold and Copper .
  2. Wash with Reikland Fleshshade .
  3. Shade around recessed and in deep recesses with 1:1 Doombull Brown and Abaddon Black .
  4. Pick out highlights with Gold
  5. Fine highlights with Vallejo Model AIr Silver RLM01 Metallic .

Grey Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Stormvermin Fur .
  2. Shaderecesses with Stormvermin Fur and Abaddon Black , I also chucked in a touch of Incubi Darkness , just to add some interest.
  3. Highlight with a 1:1 mix of Stormvermin Fur and Administratum Grey .
  4. Mix some White Scar into the Administratum Grey and add fine highlights.

White Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Corax White .
  2. Wash with Apothecary White .
  3. Shade deep recesses with thinned Skavenblight Dinge .
  4. Add edge highlights with Corax White and selective highlights of White Scar .
  5. Finish with dot highlights of White Scar if/where needed.

Black Armour

  1. Basecoat with Abaddon Black .
  2. Chunky highlights with Dark Reaper .
  3. Fine edge highlights of 1:1 Dark Reaper and Administratum Grey .
  4. Selective highlights of Administratum Grey .
  5. Specular highlights, with a mix of Administratum Grey and White Scar .

Black Leather

  1. Basecoat with Abaddon Black .
  2. Glaze raised areas with a 1:1 mix of Abaddon Black and Skavenblight Dinge .
  3. Chunky Highlights of Skavenblight Dinge .
  4. Fine highlights of Stormvermin Fur .
  5. Selective highlights of Karak Stone .
  6. Mix a little White Scar into your Karak Stone and add a few specular highlights, where light would really hit.

Brown Leather

  1. Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
  2. Glaze/highlight with Doombull Brown .
  3. Edge highlight with XV-88 .
  4. Mix some Wraithbone into your XV-88 and selectively highlight corners and curves.
  5. Add specular highlights of Wraithbone to corners.

Jade Spikes

  1. Basecoat with Abaddon Black .
  2. Glaze Incubi Darkness towards the tip.
  3. Edge highlight with Kabalite Green .
  4. Mix the Kabalite Green 1:1 with Deepkin Flesh and selectively highlight the point.
  5. Finish with a dot of Deepkin Flesh .

Black Claws

  1. Basecoat with Black .
  2. Glaze everything but the recesses with Corvus Black , pulling the paint towards the tip.
  3. Start adding Ivory (Citadel equivalent Wraithbone ) to the Corvus Black slowly. Now edge highlight and glaze towards the tip, making the highlights smaller, each time your add more paint.
  4. I used this same recipe to paint these black wing membranes. Switching the Corvus Black stage to a downward drybrush, then being careful to to over highlight the folds. We still want it to read as black.

Daemon Skin

  1. Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Celestra Grey & White Scar .
  2. Wash with Apothecary White , thinned with an equal amount of Contrast Medium .
  3. Glaze recesses with a 1:1 mix of Apothecary White and Daemonette Hide , where you want there to be more warmth/interest.
  4. Mix a little Gal Vorbak Red into the above and selectively shade very deep places. On the pictures model, I did this on the runes, around the eyes and in the deepest parts of his armpit.
  5. If the basecoat nees re-establishing in any points, use the same 1:1 mix of Celestra Grey & White Scar as previous.
  6. Finish with small highlights of White Scar or a white of your choice.
