How I painted my Ironjawz armor.

It seems tedious but it is fun and messy and really builds up well over time without the need to be very precise or neat. To start prime the model any colour you like.

Yellow Armor

  1. Basecoat with Averland Sunset
  2. To help PUSH the yellow tint this all over with Imperial Fist or Yellow
  3. You can now work up some areas by glazing or layering Flash Gitz Yellow Cover as much or as little as you like. Weathering beyond this step will cover any messy work anyway but work with thin paint here if you can. This has poor coverage but goes over the previous worked up yellow quite well.
  4. Wash the entire panel with a 50:50 mix of Fuegan Orange and Iyanden Yellow . You could really use either/or here but I find pure Iyanden too weak, and pure Fuegan too strong. If it is still too strong add some Lahmian Medium . I premixed an entire pot of this as we will be using it a lot over the army.
  5. Ironjawz armor has a tonne of awesome edges on the battered metal. Pick out as much or as little as you like with Flash Gitz Yellow again to restore some brightness. This can be simply thick edge highlights or you can layer/glaze back in some upwards facing panels if this scheme is looking too orange for you.You can also Drybrush this with as much Flash Gitz Yellow as you like to make it less orange if needed.
  6. Edge Highlight the brightest or most worn edges with Ice Yellow or Dorn Yellow . There are many you can do on these models and it really packs a punch when you go over the whole mode. You can also add some nicks and scratches and chips with this same colour. A sponge could also be used for chipping here.
  7. Now we add battle damage. Use Rhinox Hide as tiny dots and lines INSIDE the previous scratches and edges and damage. Use more of this to indicate the most damaged parts. These would be the front facing panels that are seeing the most wear and tear.
  8. Optional: Use Mournfang Brown and Skrag Brown to taste to add rust streaks coming down from some of the damage and holes. You can also use these colours as a glaze to push the orange shadows on deep sections of armor.
  9. Optional: Add Abaddon Black flames / squiggles to panels of choice. These are pretty eas to do as they are just a serious of small straight lines but they require some planning and using a tonne of reference is a must. Chip and scratch these with Ice Yellow once done to integrate them into the armor better.
  10. Congrats - You are done. This seems like a lot of steps but it is really up to you how far you take each element of the armor. Yellow armor looks really awesome when complete and it will be a very striking scheme.

Black Armor

  1. Basecoat with Black or Abaddon Black
  2. Glaze or wetblend some upper surfaces with Stegadon Scale Green
  3. Thick edge highlight with Stegadon Scale Green
  4. Fine edge highlight with Thunderhawk Blue
  5. Finest Edge highlight with Fenrisian Grey
  6. Scratches and weathering with Fenrisian Grey
  7. Dot highlight absolute sharpest edges and weathering with Ulthuan Grey
  8. Optional: Add some rust with Mournfang Brown and Skrag Brown

Metals

  1. Base Iron Warriors or a dark steel paint of choice
  2. Wash Nuln Oil and some Agrax Earthshade to taste.
  3. Highlight Stormhost Silver or a silver / chrome paint of choice.
  4. Weather and rust with washes of Mournfang Brown and Skrag Brown

Orruk Flesh

  1. Base with Caliban Green I'm using Vallejo Angel Green. Should be similar.
  2. Layer up Orruk Flesh
  3. Layer up Ogryn Camo
  4. Layer up Krieg Khaki
  5. Sharpest highlight is Krieg Khaki mixed with Flayed One Flesh to taste.
  6. Lips are Screamer Pink then a layer of Bugman's Glow then add some Flayed One Flesh or any other off-white to make a brighter pink highlight. I also put Bugman's Glow into the ear cavities.
  7. Eyelids are Incubi Darkness eyes are Flash Gitz Yellow
