The paint reciepe is almost identical to the recipe found on 'Eavy Archive. It is for those who want their bases to match that of the Warhammer 40,000 box art. I use it pretty frequently. If you like resin puddles pictured in the thumb, be sure to check out my video on Instagram, YouTube or TikTok.

Base Building

First superglue down any rocks you want on the base. I like to use clay cat litter for this.

  1. Cover the rest of base with a layer of PVA glue, thinned with a little water.
  2. Now sprinkle some sand over the glue or dip it in a pot of sand if this is easier.
  3. Once the glue has dried brush and blow off the excess.
  4. To stop the sand coming loose, I like to put a final layer of PVA over the sand. This is thinned about 1:1 with water to ensure it really flows into recesses.
  5. Leave the base until you are absolutely certain that it is dry.

Painting

  1. Basecoat with Mournfang Brown . It is best to thin a little with water to ensure it flows into all of the recesses. Give it a couple of coats, until the colour is solid.
  2. Drybrush with Zamesi Desert , picking out all of the raised detail.
  3. Give the base a second dryrbush with Ushabti Bone . Make this drybrush a little lighter, so it only picks out the most raised points.
  4. Basecoat the rocks with Dawnstone .
  5. Wash the rocks with a little Agrax Earthshade .
  6. Drybrush the rocks with Administratum Grey . If you only have small rocks, feel free to pick out detail by hand with a brush.
  7. More lightly drybrush with White or slectively pick out small highlights with a brush, as done above.
  8. Finally, finish off by painting the rim with Steel Legion Drab .

Now all that remains is to apply any turfs or flock that you wish. I like to use PVA glue and some flock from my local model shop.
