This is my take on the Brazen Beasts warband colour scheme featured in the Khrone Daemonkin codex from 7th Ed. 40k.
The main colours are gold, crimson, and a dark bronze.
General Information:
My general method is to lay down all the base colours for the model, then do all the shading in the recesses before moving on to the highlights.
I don't own an airbrush so the recipe will mainly consist of Games Workshop spray cans and brush on paints.
Priming:
I find the metallic sprays from GW tend to be a little on the transparent side, so an initial undercoat of grey helps.
- Prime the model lightly with Mechanicus Standard Grey
- Prime over that with Retributor Armour
Gold (Armour Trim):
I generally start with the armour trim so that any time I get paint on another piece its easy to cover later.
- Drybrush over the model with Retributor Armour to even out the colour
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight fine points and sharp edges with Stormhost Silver
Bronze (Armour Panels):
- Base with Warplock Bronze
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight fine points and sharp edges with Balthasar Gold
Red (Details - Shoulder Pads, Head, Cloth):
- Base with Mephiston Red
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight the edges with Evil Sunz Scarlet
- Add a fine highlight with Wild Rider Red
- Highlight fine points with Fire Dragon Bright
Brown (Details - Leather Pouches, Wraps):
- Base with Rhinox Hide
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Roughly highlight the edges with Skrag Brown
- Add a fine highlight with Ushabti Bone
Black (Details - Armour Ribbing, Weapon Casings):
- Base with Abaddon Black
- Highlight the edges with Eshin Grey
- Highlight fine points with Dawnstone
Silver (Details - Weapons, Grenades):
For grenades, replace Nuln Oil with Athonian Camoshade
- Base with Leadbelcher
- Shade the recesses with Nuln Oil
- Highlight the edges with Stormhost Silver
Green (Details - Lenses, Eyes):
- Base with Caliban Green
- Shade the recesses with Nuln Oil
- Layer the middle with Warpstone Glow
- Add fine points of Moot Green
Molten Weapon (Details):
Layer towards the outside, leaving the inner portions a lighter colour
- Base with Dorn Yellow
- Layer with Yriel Yellow
- Add a thinner layer of Fire Dragon Bright
- Layer less with Wild Rider Red
- Add a thin layer of Khorne Red
- Roughly blot the edges with Abaddon Black
