I have really been enjoying painting these Pallid Hand Plague Marines for my Death Guard Kill Team. Here is how I painted most of the main elements.
Off-White Armour
- Basecoat the armour with Wraithbone . I also primed with Wraithbone , to make to process quicker.
- Wash the armour with Skeleton Horde , thinned with an equal amount of Contrast Medium .
- In particuarly deep recesses, I like to pop a little Agrax Earthshade , to define them more. You could also just use a thinned darker brown like Rhinox Hide .
- Edge highlight the most exposed edges with Wraithbone .
- Add specular highlights to the centre of the previous ones and on pointed corners with dots of a pure white (like Vallejo Dead White ).
- Add thin downward lines with Rust Streaks by AK Interactive.
- Shape the above lines with some white spirit on a brush. Making them thinner and adding a nice natural looking stain.
Green Pauldrons
- Basecpat the armours with Deathworld Forest .
- Wash with Agrax Earthshade .
- Edge highlight with Death Guard Green
- Add small highlights of Nurgling Green where relevant.
- Finish of by mixing some Pallid Wych Flesh into your Nurgling Green and adding specular highlights to points and corners.
Bronze Armour Trim
- Basecoat with Balthasar Gold .
- Wash the metal with equal parts Agrax Earthshade and Aethermatic Blue .
- Add any edge highlights you fancy in with Sycorax Bronze .
- Finish highlighting the metal with small specular highlights of Stormhost Silver .
- In areas where the previous wash has dried and collected, pop some thinned Sotek Green .
- Put very small amounts of Nihilakh Oxide within the previous colour. This represents the most oxidized parts.
- If you wanted to add a little additional "pop", consider adding dots of pure white in areas where oxidisation would have REALLY built up.
Fleshy Tentacles
- Basecoat with Screamer Pink .
- Wash the tentacle with Druchii Violet . Don't let it pool too much.
- With a 1:1 mix of Screamer Pink and Pink Horror Horror cover most of the flesh with a thick glaze. Pulling paint towards the centre always. Paint everything just outside of recesses where the dried shade has dried.
- Paint a smaller area with pure Pink Horror . Use the same technique as above to ensure a smooth transition. This time go over around two thirds of the area, painting higher to simulate where light would hit and adding the illusion of depth below.
- With a 1:1 mix of Pink Horror and Kislev Flesh flesh paint an even smaller area, pulling even closer to the centre and higher.
- With pure Kislev Flesh paint a very small area. For some tentacles I add this highlight as multiple small lines to add texture.
- Optionally, add dot highlights of Flayed One Flesh to the points of tentacles and the centre of the previous steps highlights.
Aged Bone
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
- Cover most of the bone wit a couple of coats of XV-88 . Leave points at the bottom and pull the brush towards the tip.
- Mix XV-88 and Ushabti Bone 1:1. Now repeat the above step, coverring less area.
- With pure Ushabti Bone do the same again, you should now be adding these like a chunky highlight towards the tip.
- Coverring an even smaller area, highlight with Screaming Skull .
- With a pure white (like Dead White or White Scar ) highlight the tip of the bone and any odd corners that could do with a pop of brightness.
