My personal formula for painting Word Bearers Chaos Space Marines
Painting guide for the Night World armour variant used by the Howling Griffons Space Marine chapter.
This is my take on the Magma Hounds colour scheme, most recently in the 8th Ed Chaos Space Marine codex.
The lighter colors (skeleton bone, stone golem and corpse pale) are darkened more by the wash than the darker colors, that's why i use the same color for highlighting those lighter colors instead of using a lighter highlighting color as i do for the darker colors.
Preparation step two is to saturate the base texture with it's high surface area, which can be messy and spill on an already painted miniature. The small amount of black spill on the base in step 3 will be easily fixed in basecoating step one without having to paint the entire base.
Enforcer battlesuit, Crisis battlesuit, Broadside battlesuit, Riptide battlesuit, selected drones
How I painted my Leagues of Votann Kill Team. I decided to go for the "normal" box art colours, as I've got another predominantly orange scene I want to try shortly.
Very budget and battle ready version of gray urban-like color scheme for basic Astra Militarum troops.
(mainly recorded for myself so I don't forget the paints and paint order :v)
How I painted my Gun Servitor for my Inquisitorial Agents Kill Team. I wanted an increased amount of vibrancy in the armour, which I think turned out well. The basic colour composition in the same as the box art though.
Facing the task of painting a large number of titans in a fairly short space of time, I brewed this recipe for use on my titans using mostly contrast paints over a metal coloured basecoat to achieve a quick, effective finish. You could easily adapt the contrast colours used to achieve a metallic finish for a variety of other colours. Inks carefully applied can achieve a similar result properly thinned. Using washes as a substitute for the armour panels tends to leave a very matt finish which is hard to add any more depth too so I would not recommend them.
This is a beginner recipe, assuming you are doing things in batches. I personally don't like to paint this way, but it's the most efficient way to put an army together.
Painted for a painting competition run by Old Guard Games and Badger Games for Adepticon 2025.
